Kia Ceed MPV Concept at Geneva Motor Show

Ceed MPV ConceptThe Kia Ceed MPV vehicle shown last year as computer renderings has now been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.  Initial designs shown a vast area of glass reaching from the bonnet right across the roof and a diagonal windscreen header reminiscent of Vauxhall’s panoramic glass technology used on the Astra Sport Hatch model.  Renderings also showed the rear view mirror on a stork from the windscreen header and diagonally striped seat fabric with the glass roof giving the whole car an open and airy, if not slightly greenhouse, feel.

In the metal, known as the No 3 Concept, there are distinct echoes of the Plus and C-Max versions of the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus.  There are also measured influences from the Honda Jazz and the front end looks mildly similar to the Mercedes A-Class.  The concept MPV has five doors (like the Golf Plus and Focus C-Max) but is 10cm longer than the standard Kia Ceed as well as being taller.  The rolling concept version has stayed very close to the computer generated images from last year, retaining the interior, roof and funky rear light shapes.

The Kia Ceed MPV has been designed in a joint venture by Kia and Hyundai, but the market model will be sold under the brand Kia.  The car is expected to feature a 1.6 litre, 126bhp engine on launch in petrol and diesel versions followed by a 2.0 litre version after release.  Production is due to begin in factories located in South Korea and the Czech Republic for a 2010 launch.  There are no specific dates for the vehicles sale in the UK or US, so Kia fans in the UK with a desire for more space will need to take a close look at the Kia Ceed SW.
