Bond’s favourite: the Aston Martin Vanquish S

Aston Martin Vanquish S The Aston Martin Vanquish was first designed in 2001 by Ian Callum.  The car appeared in many films and other pop culture media, including being named the official car of James Bond in three of his films and, more recently, appearing in the vampire film Twilight based on the popular novel by Stephanie Meyer.  There were several different models of the Aston Martin Vanquish, including the S model.

The Aston Martin Vanquish S model debuted at the Paris Auto Show in 2004.  Up until the Vanquish S, the previous Vanquish models were pretty much the same.  However, the Vanquish S featured some style changes, new wheels, and more power.  It also made some of the 2004 Sports Dynamic Pack standard, such as the steering and a sportier suspension.  The Vanquish S was first available for purchase in 2005.  It was available in the United States and Europe in 2005 and 2006, but the 2007 Vanquish S was not sold in the U.S.  2007 also marked the last year the Vanquish S (or any model of the Vanquish) was sold.  The Vanquish was replaced by the Aston Martin DBS V12, although 2010 will see a permanent replacement for the Vanquish in the Aston Martin catalogue.

The final 40 Aston Martin Vanquish S cars were marketed as the Vanquish Ultimate Edition.  They feature new exterior colours, an upgraded interior, and more.  This version is also the first (and so far, only) Vanquish to feature a stick-shift manual transmission option.  After its release, the demand for a manual transmission was so great that Aston Martin offered to refit previously sold automatic transmission Vanquishes with a manual gearbox for a fee.

There were rumours that Aston Martin was going to build a Vanquish roaster, but these rumours never came to fruition.  In July of 2007, Aston Martin closed their Newport Pagnell factory, the location where the Vanquish was built.  The final car to roll off the assembly line was a Vanquish S Ultimate Edition. In 2008, the Vanquish was ranked third on the list of Best Film Cars Ever thanks to its appearance in the movie Die Another Day.
