Kia is named Car Franchise of the Year by Motor Trader

Kia is named Car Franchise of the Year at the Motor Trader Awards 2009Motor Trader, a leading car industry magazine has given its coveted Car Franchise of the Year award to Kia Motors during their 19th annual award ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. 

The Motor Trader Industry Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation in the automotive retail industry and are widely recognised as the performance benchmarks by dealers, repairers, suppliers and car manufacturers.  Kia won the Car Franchise of the Year award (sponsored by Mondial Assistance) against other short listed car makers Hyundai Motor (UK) and Mazda Motors UK.  The 2008 winner of the same category award was Mini.

The recognition has come as praise for the Kia’s remarkable rise within the car industry, fighting the downturn is sales with innovative new products like the ceed, Soul and Carens, backed up by strong manufacturer warranties.

2009 Motor Trade Awards - Franchise of the YearManaging Director of Kia Motors (UK) Ltd Paul Philpott said: “A huge amount of effort and dedication has gone into this performance from every member of the Kia team and we have been magnificently supported by our colleagues in the network who have grasped the opportunity to build their success with ours”.

“We are absolutely delighted to receive this recognition for our effort to develop our partnership with our dealer network, to build our brand strength and to deliver growth during a very difficult period”, he added.

Motor Trader Editor Curtis Hutchinson said: “Judging Motor Trader’s Car Franchise of the Year Award was particularly tough this year as all three short-listed brands had excelled against the odds in 2008.

“The panel of judges reached a unanimous decision based on the remarkable turnaround led by Paul Philpott which has seen the brand improve sales and increase dealer profitability in one of the toughest years in the UK motor trade.”

The award panel commented: “Kia has come a long way since the carmaker took over the distribution of its cars in 2002. Last year saw the brand grow sales by 6.65 per cent in a market which fell by 11%. A remarkable achievement for a brand in a declining market.

“Sales in 2008 were achieved on the back of retail demand for its growing range of products which now include the European designed and built ceed range which comes with an industry-leading seven year warranty package.”

This is another accolade for Kia after being named Manufacturer of the Year by Autocar and AM magazine awarding them Car Maker of the Year.
