Mitsubishi Releases Fastest Lancer Evo Ever

Mitshubishi Lancer Evolution X, FQ-400Mitsubishi has released it’s fastest ever Lancer Evolution in the UK, the FQ-400 Evolution X.  The tenth version of Mitsubishi’s flagship comes with 403bhp and 387lb.ft of torque lightweight aluminium 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.  From a standing start, the new Evo is capable of reaching 62mph in 3.8 seconds before reaching an electronically limited 155mph.

The MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control) engine uses race-spec high-flow fuel injectors and a higher spec hybrid turbocharger featuring low-friction bearings, a high temperature turbine and strengthened thrust bearing to reduce turbo lag and increase response.   The larger turbo, kept cool via the cars vented bonnet, is complimented by an up-rated intercooler and a high-flow stainless steel exhaust system.

Mitshubishi Lancer Evolution X, FQ-400All of this power is put on the road via Mitsubishi’s sophisticated Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) four-wheel-drive system which provides power to whichever wheels can best make use of it, giving the Evolution X amazing performance on country roads.  The car also features a wider track and lowered suspension incorporating Eibach springs and Bilstein Shock Absorbers running on lightweight 18-inch, nine spoke alloy wheels fitted with Toyo Proxes R1R tyres.

The combination of improved handling and grip give the Evolution X sharper cornering response on the road and more incisive steering. Depending on the road conditions, the driver can select Tarmac, Gravel and Snow via the S-AWC system using a wheel-mounted button, displayed in the central instrument panel for optimum surface performance.  The ability to control where the car goes is also improved with an active steering system.  The enhanced performance and handling is complimented by superior braking which incorporated aerospace grade aluminium alloys and floating sealed discs grabbed by high performance pads.

Mitshubishi Lancer Evolution X, FQ-400Mitsubishi has given the new FQ-400 an assortment of electronic gadgetry, coming with a hands-free Bluetooth telephone connection, a CD-tuner with 30 Gig hard drive and DVD sat-nav. Remote central locking, automatic headlamps and windscreen wipers make the car easy of use while tinted glass provides an element of privacy to the Evolution X’s passengers and driver.  As with all previous versions of the Lancer, it features comfortable seating for five as well as a decent sized boot, bringing all the benefits of the standard saloon car it’s based upon – but with the explosive performance of a super car.  Mitsubishi’s FQ-400 is covered by a three year, 36,000 mile warranty and will be available from June 2009 but is unlikely to qualify for the government scrappage scheme.
