New Jaguar F-Type Launched in Hollywood

The gltizy LA launch of the new F-Type Jaguar was attended by celebrities including Miranda KerrThe new Jaguar F-Type was launched at a star studded Hollywood bash.  The reveal was in front of celebrity guests with a live-action drive at Raleigh film studies in Playa Vista in California.  The gltizy Los Angeles event was attended by a host of celebrities, including Miranda Kerr, Joe Manganiello, Kelly Osbourne, model David Gandy, Yasmin Mills, Jodie Kidd, singer-songwriter Andra Day and host of CarCast, Adam Carolla.  Guests were entering with live music from DJ and violinist duo Mia Moretti and Caitlin Moe.

The new Coupe is the hard topped version of the open-topped Jaguar F-Type Roadster.  The F-Type is the successor to the legendary E-Type Jaguar and the new version has been launched with a top speed of 186mph.   The wraps came off the new F-Type Coupe on the eve of the Los Angeles Motor Show and Jaguar claiming that it is ‘the most dynamically capable, performance-focused production Jaguar ever.’

The F-Type uses an all-aluminum construction with up to half the aluminium used in the car being recycled. The car incorporates a LED high-mounted stop light, named the ‘ribbon of light’, which is hidden at the top of the boot lid.

Prices for the new Jaguar F-Type start at  £51,235 for the entry-level supercharged 3.0 litre V6  F-Type Coupe which develops 340 horse-power, has a top speed of 161mph and accelerates from rest to 60mph in  5.1 seconds.  The 3.0 litre S Coupe model starts at £60,235 develops 380 horse-power, has a top speed of  171mph, reaching 60mph from a standing start in 4.8 seconds.   The £85,000 Jaguar V8R will cost just a fraction more than the 400bhp Porsche 911 Carrera S and some £53,000 less than the almost identically powered Aston Martin V12 Vantage S.

New Jaguar F-type photoThe F-Type features an eight-speed ‘Quickshift’ transmission which acts in automatic mode and as a manual, using steering wheel-mounted paddles.  The range-topping R-Coupe car has a specially tuned active sports exhaust system promising ‘a howling crescendo’ of revs, as well as enhanced carbon ceramic brakes to help stop to F-type in its tracks.

The ‘cockpit-style’ interior and flat-bottomed steering wheel is encased in premium leather and features contrasting stitching.  There’s also the option of a glass panaromic roof.  All new F-Type models are fitted with Jaguar’s intelligent ‘stop-start’ system which shuts down the engine when the car comes to a stop to save fuel and lower emissions.  To improve the cars handling, the F-Type Coupe incorporates a hidden rear aerodynamic spoiler that sits near the tailgate and rises automatically at 70mph, before dropping again when speeds reduce to below 50mph.

Ian Callum, Jaguar’s director of design, who led the celebrations said: ‘Creating a sports coupé is the purest of design tasks and also the most challenging. I believe we’ve got it right.  He went on to say ‘This is possibly the most dynamic reveal of a car ever and underlines its performance credentials. Jaguar’s vehicle line director Ian Hoban said: ’The F-Type coupe is the most dynamically capable  and involving Jaguar we’ve ever built.’

Approved used Jaguar’s are available from Jaguar’s Used Car site, including the existing F-Type model.
